Potter Space has continued its hands-on support for Cutnall Green C of E Primary School, helping the pupils nurture their own vegetable patch and orchard. This initiative is designed to encourage children to engage with where their food comes from, from planting and growing to harvesting and, finally, preparing meals in their children's kitchenette.
A Bountiful Harvest
The summer growing season proved hugely successful, with the children celebrating a fantastic harvest. Among the thriving produce were stringless runner beans, Pak Choi, onions, and impressive giant sunflowers. These vegetables were all carefully planted by the students and then collected for use in their dedicated kitchen area.
To build on this success, we recently expanded the school's burgeoning orchard with two espalier-trained apple trees and two espalier-trained pear trees. These new additions supplement the trees planted in 2023.
"It is truly wonderful to see the enthusiasm of the children here at the Cutnall Green C of E Primary School. Watching them tend to the plants, seeing the vegetables thrive, and knowing they are taking that fresh produce straight into their kitchen to prepare a meal is incredibly rewarding. We are committed to this continuous support. It’s about sowing the seeds of good habits and practical knowledge that will benefit them for years to come." Derrick Potter, Chairman at Potter Space.
Learning from the Ground Up
The ability to prepare and eat what they have grown creates a powerful, practical, and highly educational experience.
"The commitment from the team is invaluable to our school. This positive, continuous support is creating a profound impact. The children are not just learning about gardening; they are gaining confidence, understanding healthy eating, and developing teamwork skills." Ben King, Head Teacher at Cutnall Green C of E Primary School.
The flourishing garden and growing orchard at school stand as a powerful testament to the value of collaboration. This initiative, driven by Potter Space and the enthusiasm of the pupils and school team, demonstrates how teamwork creates tangible, lasting benefits.
