Creating a Home for Business by putting the customer first

Jason Rockett, managing director of Potter Space, outlines why the company is perfectly placed to meet your industrial property requirements.

Having built a career in the property sector, I believe Potter Space brings a refreshing approach to the industry.

That’s because the company has benefitted from the experience previously gained when operating in a different sector, having launched less than three years ago following its transition from an award-winning family-owned logistics business, with fifty plus years of profitable trading behind it.

It was a natural progression to become a property company because, over those five decades, the logistics company bought and developed five large industrial parks, across 250 acres, with 1.6 million square feet of industrial units.

The success was built on strong brand values and by focussing on its customers, to deliver the highest quality products and service, ensuring a great customer experience, and providing a collaborative and responsive approach. These values have been successfully adopted by Potter Space and is a key to our success. It certainly helps to set us apart from other property operators.

We are an extremely ambitious, growing company with diverse sites, in great locations. Three of them have rail links, which is a major advantage over other business parks. Our locations have resulted in us attracting a range of businesses, with whom we have a close working relationship, and has resulted in close to 100% occupancy.

As well as having high occupancy, we also have a large amount of surplus land with an intensive development programme underway.

Over the course of last year, we recruited key personnel to add to an already experienced team, to not only deliver our development strategy but also to continue to provide our existing customers with a first-class service.

During lockdown, we took the opportunity to reassess the business and evolved a five-year business strategy, with a ten-year horizon, and this has set the direction of travel, including the decision to bring construction in-house.  By doing so we can have greater control over quality, cost, and the build programme.

Recently we’ve completed one new build and let it to an existing customer who wanted to increase its operations on site. We take great pride in situations such as this, where we can help customers expand their business.

We are now underway with our next spec. build in Ripon, which is Unit 53, a 17,445 square foot unit. Following a similar build strategy to Unit 52, it is already generating a great deal of interest from prospective buyers.

We recognise the importance of ‘green’ builds, and were therefore proud that Unit 52, our first carbon neutral building, was recognised with an international Green Apple Award for its environmental features.

Furthermore, in spring 2022 we intend to start work at Potter Space Droitwich, on four new build units totalling circa 105,000 square feet.

However, it is not just top-quality buildings we are investing in. We also take the wellbeing of our customers and team extremely seriously too, to ensure we provide them with a perfect ‘Home for Business’, which will include a new Potter Space HQ.

As part of our development plans and our desire to continually improve, we’re enhancing our customer amenity space and this includes attractive landscaping, picnic areas, and nature walks. We even have our own beehives on site to improve our biodiversity, and electric charging points to help protect the environment.

We are therefore looking forward to welcoming new customers to Potter Space as their new ‘Home for Business’ as our new build programme progresses.
