This year marked a milestone that means so much to everyone at Potter Space - 60 years since our story first began. To celebrate, we gathered for a magical evening at one of Leeds’ most iconic landmarks: the Corn Exchange. It was a night filled with pride, memories, laughter - and a feeling that an exciting new chapter is beginning.
A Place Full of Memories
Choosing the Corn Exchange wasn’t just about grandeur. More than six decades ago, our founder and Chairman, Derrick Potter, would come here to trade and dream bigger dreams. Returning to this building felt like stepping back into the pages of our own story - and starting a new chapter right where an earlier one began. It was the first private hire the venue has ever hosted, making the occasion feel even more special.
Guests from every part of our journey - family, friends, colleagues, customers and partners - joined us to celebrate how far we’ve come and where we’re heading next, as we grow into a vibrant, modern property company in the heart of Leeds.
A Night to Remember
The evening began with a warm welcome and a chance to reconnect with familiar faces. A dynamic light show set the scene before a powerful reading of Derrick’s own words reminded everyone just how extraordinary the journey has been.
There were heartfelt speeches, including reflections from our Managing Director Jason Rockett and a celebration of our long-standing partnership with St George’s Crypt by Richard Leavis. Our host, magician Ben Hanlin, brought laughter and a touch of wonder to the room - even getting everyone involved in a ‘Play Your Cards Right’ moment that had the whole room cheering.
The highlight of the night came as Derrick took to the stage, sharing his gratitude, passion and enduring drive. He also unveiled his new book, The Road Behind Me — a personal story of entrepreneurship, challenge, and belief that continues to shape our future.
Coming Together, Giving Back
Our charity raffle lit up the room, not just with the excitement of brilliant prizes but with generosity that spoke louder than words. Together, our guests helped raise nearly £4,000 for St George’s Crypt - a cause close to our hearts and rooted in the community we’re proud to call home.
Looking Ahead - With Everyone Who Got Us Here
What made the evening unforgettable wasn’t simply the setting or the speeches - it was the feeling shared by everyone in the room. A sense of connection. Of history. Of possibility.
As we build our future from Leeds - bold, ambitious and full of energy - we carry with us every relationship, every lesson, and every success story from the last six decades. Here’s to the next chapter of Potter Space.
